Obituary of Joan Showalter

Sherrie “Joan” Showalter, age 83, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021, at her home on Christmas Eve.  She was born on February 23, 1938, in Scott City, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Forrest King Kennedy.  Joan was one of 10 children.  She was a member of Bible Christian Church in Garden City, Kansas, after she and her sister transferred their letter from the First Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Joan married the love of her life, Scott Showalter, on March 23, 1956, in Clayton, New Mexico.  They were married for 64 years before he passed away on April 29, 2020, in Garden City, Kansas.

Joan owned and operated a dress shop, Sherrie Lee's in Garden City, Kansas for several years.  She also worked for Conrad's Dress Store for several years after that.

Joan and Scott enjoyed traveling and took trips to Paris, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.  Fishing was a passion they both shared and they traveled to a lot of different places to fulfill that hobby.  Scott was a founding member of Pope & Young and was also on their board of directors and Joan truly enjoyed attending and participating in those meetings held all over the US.

Survivors include her Three Sons - Sheldon & Cheri Showalter of Garden City, Kansas, Shane & Sue Showalter of Holcomb, Kansas, Shea & Charity Showalter of Colorado Springs, Colorado, One Sister - Barbara Kennedy-Drew of Garden City, Kansas, and Scott & Joan’s devoted care taker, Vicki McInnis, Seven Grandchildren and Three Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Six Brothers and Two Sisters, and numerous Nieces & Nephews.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor Jeff Starkey presiding.

There will be no calling times.

Inurnment will be in the Valley View Cemetery.

Memorials In Lieu of Flowers may be written to the St. Jude Hospital or St. Catherine Hospice in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St., Garden City, Kansas, 67846.
