William Harold White

William Harold White, Age 66, passed away peacefully at his home in Lakin of natural causes on Dec. 18, 2021. A lifetime resident of Lakin, “Bill” was born on October 24, 1955, to Harold E. White and Thelma F. Stout. He attended school in Lakin, graduating in 1973 from Lakin High School where he excelled in his classes. After graduation, he attended and graduated from Garden City Community College and then graduated from Fort Hays State University, with degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. He was employed as an insurance agent for Kearny County Farm Bureau, then worked for many years as an antique dealer at Antiques 'N Things in Lakin. As an infant, Bill was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin.

An avid amateur astronomer, Bill traveled with a tour group by bus to Manitoba, Canada to observe the total solar eclipse in Feb. 1979. Other special interests included reading anything he could get his hands on, science, vintage and antique cars, and collecting scale models of cars, airplanes, and lighthouses. One of his high school friends said he was often more intelligent than the teachers in school. A favorite quote of Bill's was: “ I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” (Sarah Williams)

Survivors include his One Brother - David T. White and wife Katherine, Lakin. Nephews Timothy D. White and wife Tonya, Lakin, and Adam B. White, Lakin. Great-nephews: Edan, Levi, Dane, and Theo White, and great-nieces Jennabelle, Desi, and Tatum White, all of Lakin. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents Ernest and Elizabeth White of Lakin, and maternal grandparents, William and Violet Stout of Linden, IA.

Per Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside service will be held in the spring. There will be no calling times.
