Hugh Jenkins McDaniel, age 93, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.  He was born February 7, 1925 in Grady County, Oklahoma, the son of John Jenkins (JJ) and Chloie Edith Weems McDaniel.

He was a graduate of Binger High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. During his years of service, Hugh served in the American 1st Army, Company G 311th Infantry and traveled through Europe, including time on the front line at the bridge of Remagan. Hugh was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Good Conduct Medal Army Occupation Ribbon for his time in Germany.

Hugh married Alene Berniece Anthony on August 23, 1947 in Caddo County, Oklahoma. They shared 71 years of marriage.

After his service during World War II, Hugh farmed in Oklahoma for 7 years, prior to moving to Scott City, Kansas. He was an assistant manager at the Ideal grocery store in Scott City for 7 years, and then began a 22-year career with the U.S. Postal Service. After retirement in 1985, Hugh worked 20 years with his own lawn service.

Hugh is currently a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, along with being a member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). In 1984, he won the award for Best Garden of the Month in Scott City.

Survivors include his wife, Berniece, along with daughters Karen Roberts (Tom) of Manhattan KS, Diana Wharton of Topeka, and son  Mark McDaniel (Verna) of Leoti KS, Two Sisters, Rose E. Moss of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Edith Verser of Verden, Oklahoma, Grandchildren are Greg Roberts (Mari) of Toulouse France, Chad Roberts of Palm Harbor FL, Audrey Raines (Josh) of Pflugerville TX, Shannon Wharton of Topeka KS, Heather Bever (Danny) of Olathe KS, and Kenzie (Cameron) Wright of Topeka KS. Hugh also has five great-grandchildren.

Preceding Hugh in death were his parents, along with two sisters, Maxine Hoffman & Berniece Koerner, and brothers, Buford and Johnny.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018 at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas with Rev. Steve Payne presiding.

Burial will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Memorials in Lieu of Flowers may be made to the Park Lane Nursing Home in care of Price & Sons Funeral Homes.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m Wednesday and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
