Nicholas Ortiz, Sr., age 97, died on Sunday, August 26, 2018 in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on September 10, 1920 in Kingman, Kansas, the son of Marcos and Julia Morales Ortiz. He has been a member of the Garden City community since 1946 having moved from Kingman, Kansas. He worked at Myers Dairy and was a co-owner of El Conquistador restaurant in Garden City, Kansas.
Nicholas proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the 473rd Regiment. He is a former member of the Knights of Columbus; American GI Forum; VFW; Latin American Club; 473rd Army Regiment Organizations.
On February 2, 1946 he was married to Mary Louise at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas. She passed away on January 5, 1999.

31 grandchildren, 36 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sons, Nick Ortiz, Jr.; Edward Ortiz; Glen Ortiz; one daughter, Yvonne Ortiz Vasquez.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Fr. Warren Stecklein presiding. Graveside committal services will follow at the Valley View Cemetery with military honors by the Kansas Army National Guard and the American Legion District 8 Honor Guard. Vigil Services will be on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at St. Dominic Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29 and from 10:00-5:00 on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Price and Sons Funeral Home.
