Fred S. Corbett, age 74, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on July 13, 1935 in Lakin, Kansas the son of Bert O. and Stella M. Netser Corbett. He served on the Garden City Police Department from 1957 to 1960. He moved to Lakin and was the Kearny County Sheriff from 1960 to 1963, moving back to Garden City and rejoining the police force until 1968. He then went to work for Oswalt Industries and became the foreman retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Deerfield, Kansas. He enjoyed working with horses and cattle on the family ranch, hunting, fishing, watching westerns on the television and spending time with his family and friends.
On June 15, 1956 he married Helen N. Gilbert @ Clayton, New Mexico. She survives.
Other Survivors Include: Four Sons. Michael B. Corbett of Wichita, Kansas, Dale B. (& Sue) Corbett of Garden City, Kansas, Stephen W. Corbett of Little Rock, Arkansas and Richard D. (& Rosemary) Corbett of Garden City, Kansas; One Daughter, Sheri G. Corbett of Topeka, Kansas; One Sister, Betty M. Stephens of Garden City, Kansas; Six Grandchildren and One Great-Grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold "Sam" & Gene Corbett and a sister, Maxine Merz.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Mike Lake presiding.
There will be no public calling times at the funeral home.
Interment will be held at a later date in the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas.
The family requests memorials be given to the Kearny County Museum and Historical Society in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.
