Yvonne Allman, age 86, died Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on April 8, 1926 in Franklin County, Kansas the daughter of Henry Clinton & Henrietta Lambe Sturgeon. Mrs. Allman attended Emporia State Teachers College, taught 2 years at Franklin County, Kansas, then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism at Kansas State University. She was editor of the Collegian for one summer and worked in the KSU Library. She had been a former co-owner and operator of the Dighton Herald and office supply shop before moving to Garden City in 1968.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Finney County Senior Center, all of Garden City, and a lifetime member of the Anzio Beachhead Veterans Association.
On April 5, 1947, she married Le Roy Allman at Manhattan, Kansas. He passed away on November 18, 1993 at Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include:
One Daughter, Carla Jean Allman of Tulsa, Oklahoma;
Two Sons, Dale Nevins Allman of Plano, Texas, and
David Arnold Allman of Lawrence, Kansas;
Nine Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren and One Great-Great-Grandson.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30am on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
