William L. "Bill" Dryer, age 74, passed away as the result of a heart attack at Cedar Bluff Reservoir in Trego County, Kansas on Monday, October 24, 2011. He was born on June 15, 1937 in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Cecil & Rachel Louise Boles Dryer. Bill graduated from Great Bend High School in 1955 and then graduated from the University of Kansas in 1960. A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1965 moving from Minneapolis, Kansas, he was a chemistry teacher for Scott Community High School from 1965 until his retirement in May of 1996.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Scott City, Kansas and a member of NEA. Bill was a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army from 1960 until 1962 and in the National Guard for several years following.
On July 12, 1964 he married Marilyn J. Austin in Cawker City, Kansas. She survives.
Survivors include his Wife - Marilyn Dryer of Scott City, Kansas, Two Daughters - Amy & Doug Overton of DeKalb, Illinois, Brenda & Chris Chelvan of Salina, Kansas, Mother - Louise Dryer of Great Bend, Kansas and Four Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Father.
Funeral Services will be at the First United Methodist Church of Scott City, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 with the Rev. Dennis Carter presiding.
Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Memorials amy be given to the Bill Dryer Memorial Scholarship Fund or the First United Methodist Church % Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
