William Dixon

William Vern "Vee" Dixon, Jr. age 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Topeka, Kansas. Vee was born September 9, 1922, at Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of William Vern & Edna Marguerite Masterson Dixon. He had been a resident of Tribune, Kansas since 1951. He was an Attorney in private practice and farmer, retired. He graduated from Fort Scott High School, Fort Scott, Kansas, in 1939, earned a BA from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kansas, in 1948, and received an LL.B (Bachelor of Law) degree from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas, in 1951. He served with the 502nd Bomb Group, 402nd Bomb Squadron, 315th Wing, 20th Air Force, United States Army Air Corp during World War II from January 1943 through March of 1946. He also served in the United States Air Force Reserves from March of 1946 through February of 1949. Vee was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tribune, Tribune Rotary Club and Tribune Boy Scout Troop # 37, serving as Troop Committee Chairman. He was also a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, American Legion, National Rifle Association and the Civil Air Patrol. He served as Tribune City Attorney, Greeley County Attorney, Trustee for the Presbytery of Southern Kansas, Greeley County USD 200 School Board Member, Greeley County Fair Board Member and was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. On June 15, 1948 he married Shirley Jane Rudd at Tribune, Kansas. Vee's surviving family includes- His Wife â Shirley Dixon- Tribune, Kansas One Daughter- Jane Ellen & John Scarffe- Lawrence, Kansas Two Sons- Wade Masterson & Kerry Dixon- Tribune, Kansas Chris Rudd & Kellee Dixon- Tribune, Kansas Two Sisters- Elizabeth Waln- Des Moines, Washington Martha Jean Dixon- Tribune, Kansas Two Brothers- J. Thomas Dixon- Coeur d'Alene, Idaho James B. Dixon- Vancouver, Washington Seven Grandchildren and Seven Great Grandchildren Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tribune, Kansas. Burial will be in the Greeley County Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the Rotary International Polio Plus Campaign in care of the funeral home.
