Wanda K. Patton

Wanda Kay Patton (maiden name of Thomas), 80, of Augusta, Kansas, and formerly of Brighton, Colorado and Dodge City and Scott City, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

Born on October 14, 1944 in Scott City, Kansas to Everett A. Thomas and Ruby (Burns) Thomas, Wanda was one of seven children. She graduated from Scott City High School and worked for both Wheatland Electric and Duckwalls Department Store prior to marriage.

Wanda married the love of her life, Ronald Patton, in 1973, and together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. Their years together were filled with joy until Ronald’s passing on July 1, 1996. Wanda was a devoted mother to their three children, Jason Patton, Megan (Patton) Pierre, and Patrick Patton, whom she raised with unwavering love and care. She also deeply cherished her daughters- and son-in-law—Alexis, Pierre, and Katryn—embracing them as part of her family. She was also a proud Nana to her grandchildren, Isabelle and Iannick, and step-grandson, Gene.

She was a steadfast supporter of her children's educational and entrepreneurial endeavors, always encouraging them to follow their dreams. Though she dedicated herself fully to her family, she never had the opportunity to fulfill her own dream of becoming an interior decorator, a passion she held close to her heart.

A lifelong animal lover, especially fond of cats, Wanda’s home was always filled with furry companions, bringing her comfort and joy.

Wanda is survived by her children, grandchildren, and step-grandson; as well as her sisters, Theada Whiteman, Glenda Schinnerer and Paula Ablang and her brother, Keith Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Clyde Thomas and Ronnie Thomas.

Wanda's kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be remembered for her unconditional love and dedication to her family, her cheerful demeanor, and her ability to make everyone feel special and loved. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside memorial service will be held on April 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Wanda’s memory to the Wichita Animal Action League (waalrescue.org/donate).
