Verla Jean Lewallen-Been 82 of Blue Springs, MO passed away Sunday November 18, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Saturday November 24, 2012 with the Rev. Jerry Craig officiating at the Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main St. Blue Springs, MO. Interment will take place in Blue Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Scott County Kansas Historical Society. Verla was born June 28, 1930 in Quinter, KS the daughter of Lester and Lula (Fink) Blickenstaff. She was preceded in death by her husbands Jim Lewallen in 2003 and Gerold Been in 2012. Verla was owner and operator of the Lewallen Flower Shop in Blue Springs, MO for many years. She was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, MO. She was also active in the Scott County Historical Society and a bible study group in Scott City, KS. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and a step-daughter Connie Scott.
Survivors include her children Judi Werner of Independence, MO., Jaque Hildebrand and husband David of Blue Springs, MO., Jim Lewallen and wife Lynn of Blue Springs, MO., and Jeff Lewallen of Oak Grove, MO. Step-children Jodi Jones and husband Danny of Aurora, CO., Maryanne Heberlee-Thompson and husband John of Clay Center, KS., and Emily Chapman and husband Peter of Soquel, CA., also eighteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
