Steve A. Wells, age 55, beloved husband, father and "Poppa", passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas following a short illness. Steve was born October 10, 1957 at Scott City, Kansas, the son of Edd & Shirley Downs Wells. Steve grew up and attended schools in the Leoti and Scott City area graduating from Wichita County High School in 1976. He was a custom harvester, farmer and rancher, but most of all he was "Poppa" to his greatest joy, his grandchildren, Paige, Lane, Brooklynne and Kase. He liked for them to come and spend the day with him so he could play with them, teach them to shoot, drive a combine or just sit in his chair with him and watch TV or play games and talk. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and never turned down a cold beer or a visit. He had a big heart and would help out anyone who asked. His hobbies were hunting, collecting guns and harvesting wheat. You never saw him without his white " Wells Custom Harvesting" cap. No one loved harvest more than Steve. He liked to cut wheat very late at night after he had sent his crew home. When Jeanie would call for him to come home and rest, he would say, " I'll sleep in the winter time Jeanie."
Steve was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus.
On December 27, 1975 he married Jean Simon at the First Baptist Church in Leoti, Kansas.
