Stephen Filson Young, 79, died December 9, 2017 at Lakeland, Florida.
He was born April 14, 1938, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Fred and Eva Filson Young.
He and the family moved to Scott City in October 1941 to manage and operate the Majestic Theatre. Stephen attended Scott City schools and graduated from SCHS in 1956. He was active in sports especially basketball and track.
He attended Washburn University where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He then attended dental school in Kansas City. Upon graduation from dental school he enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed in Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.
He was a practicing dentist in Olathe, Kansas, for 40 years before moving to Florida. There he volunteered his services for Florida Public Health.
He is survived by his wife Jane and three children, Paula Munson of Sugarland, TX, Christopher of Olathe, KS, and David of Tampa, FL and four grand daughters and his sister, Marilyn Miller and husband Darrel of Scott City.
He has been cremated and funeral and military services will be held December 28 and 29 in Florida.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donors choice in Stephen’s name.
