Sarah M. Peat, age 68, died Thursday, May 27, 2010 at her home in Garden City, Kansas after a four year battle with cancer. She was born on February 26, 1942 in Larned, Kansas the daughter of Elbert C. and Graydon B. Whorton Carpenter. Sarah graduated from Larned High School in 1960. A resident of Garden City since 1979 moving from Larned, Kansas she had been a medical receptionist at the Garden Medical/Siena Medical Center for many years.
Sarah was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Garden City, Kansas. She was a hospice volunteer and enjoyed gardening. She crocheted many items that she donated to different organizations such as the Angel Tree Project, the women's shelter and the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. Sarah was an avid Kansas University fan following the Jayhawks whenever she could.
On June 13, 1986 she married Robert W. Peat in Lamar, Colorado. He survives.
Other Survivors Include: Three Sons, John D. Springer of Lewis, Kansas, James D. Springer of Austin, Texas and Justin D. Adams of York, Nebraska; Four Daughters, Lynn L. Oak of Macksville, Kansas, Lori L. Mertens of Larned, Kansas, Cynthia A. Chambers of LaVeta, Colorado and Tracy L. Peat of Garden City, Kansas; Four Sisters, Mary Bryant of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Louise Unruh of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Janet Muldrew of Overland Park, Kansas and Margaret Batchelder of Garden City, Kansas; Twelve Grandchildren and Several Nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, One Brother, James Carpenter and One Sister, Virginia Gray.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Mike McVey presiding.
There will be no public calling times at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at a later date.
The family requests memorials be given to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to St. Catherine Hospice both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
