Sandra Lynne Cavenee, age 76, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Manhattan, Kansas after suffering a stroke. Sandra was born February 16, 1936 at Spearville, Kansas, the daughter of John Sidney & Louise McKee Notestine. She was a 1953 graduate of Scott Community High School in Scott City, Kansas. In May of 1953 she married Gordon Arthur Cavenee. They were married for 47 years. They raised 6 children together. She was an integral part of the family farm as she drove the tractors & trucks helping lay many a mile of irrigation pipe; while in the house, she was busy training her four daughters to cook, sew and manage a household. She took great pride in sharing her latest interests with her children and grandchildren. She drove the county school bus that transported her children to & from school to be more involved in their lives. For many years she also taught the Menninger Bible study in the community.
Sandra was an accomplished pilot, artist, musician, ballroom dancer and loved to travel. Every spare moment was spent learning a skill and then sharing that new found passion with those around her. She learned to share Bible stories through her gift of art and drawing, and shared these dynamic Bible stories at Omega Ranch in Scott City, Kansas and as far away as youth camps in Russia & Czechoslovakia. Sandra's life revolved around learning and exploration. The unknown intrigued her and no mountain was too high for her to conquer. She earned her college degree in business in her mid 50's and she soon owned and operated her own H&R Block tax office in Scott City, Kansas. Sandra resided in Tribune, Kansas for over forty years, before retiring and moving to Florida. She returned to Kansas in 2006 and has resided at Via Christy Assisted Living Village in Manhattan, Kansas..
