Ruth Heckel

Ruth Heckel, age 82, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on February 23, 1929 in Augsburg, Germany, the daughter of Karl Wilhelm and Berta Maria Reggel Kündinger. A resident of Garden City, Kansas since 1954 moving from Holcomb, Kansas, she worked at Alco for over 30 years and also at Herb's Carryout for 10 years. She was an active member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Garden City, Kansas. Ruth was also a volunteer at the YMCA, Homestead Heath and Rehabilitation, the Senior Center and many other organizations in Garden City. On February 7, 1954 she married Gerald Dean "Jerry" Heckel in Honolulu, Hawaii. He passed away on February 2, 1989 in Garden City, Kansas. Other Survivors Include Three Sons & Wives - Curtis & Eva Heckel of Garden City, Kansas, Mark & Roxanne Heckel of Garden City, Kansas, Karl & Brenda Calleon of Maui, Hawaii, One Daughter & Husband - Bercta & Leonard Olson of Honolulu, Hawaii, 12 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, and One Sister - Berta Maria Kündinger. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the St. James Lutheran Church in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor A.J. Striffler presiding. Friends may call from 10:00am-5:00pm Tuesday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. The family requests that memorials be given to the St. James Lutheran Church in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
