Roger Charles Funk, age 59, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas after losing his 22 month and 27 day battle with brain cancer. He was born on August 1, 1951 at the St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Charles Hamilton and Beulah (Gordon) Funk.
On February 18, 1978 he married Kathleen Dumler in Oakley, Kansas. To this union three children â Dessie Miriah, Aspen Loy and Kaid Asher were born.
Roger attended school at Wichita, Hartford and graduated at Jamestown, Kansas. He attended Cloud Community College before his stint in the US Army from 1970 until 1972 serving with pride in the Big Red One. After the Army he attended Kansas State University.
He worked for Joe Bergeson and Donnie Johnson and the Moose Club in Cloud County, Kansas. Roger then worked for Larry Lightcap in Hugoton, Lou Parkinson in Scott City, and Maple Creek Farms as a manager in Leoti, Kansas.
A proud supporter of the Pork Producers of America, The Relay for Life, National Rifle Association, the Kansas, Colorado and Texas Black Powder Muzzleloaders Association and the Scott City Beavers. Roger played softball and coached many years for Girls Fast Pitch Softball and made uncountable friends and colleagues through these. He was also a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas.
Roger is survived by his wife - Kathy of Scott City, Kansas, One Son â Kaid Funk of Yoder, Kansas, One Daughter â Aspen Loy Funk of Colorado Springs, Colorado, One - Grandson Kordnse Michael Stewart of Colorado, Springs, Colorado, One Stepmother â JoeAnn Peterson of Hanover, Kansas, One Aunt â Wanda Smith of Palm Harbor, Florida, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, One Daughter â Dessie M. Funk, Two Brothers â Bill Confer and David Confer, and One Stepfather â David Peterson.
