Richard Sorenson

Richard K.Sorenson, Age 83, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 @ St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, KS. He was born November 24, 1921 at Gypsom, Kansas, the son of Henry James & Laura Effie Spellman Sorenson. A Garden City resident since 1977, moving from Palmdale, California, he was a high school teacher and coach in Kansas, New Mexico, Nevada & California, retiring in 1977. He later worked for Ball Trucking and J & M Paint & Wall Covering in Garden City. He enjoyed Garage Sales and gardening. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, serving in the 82nd Chemical Mortar Division, Battalion C Company. He attended the First Baptist Church of Garden City, Kansas. Other Memberships: Lifetime member of VFW and member of the Shrine Temple in Springer, New Mexico. On November 20, 1946 he married Sharis "Sherry" A. Chapman at Garden City, KS. She survives. Other survivors include: 1 Daughter,Kris Shanabarger and 1 Grandson, Erik Shanabarger, both of Garden City, Kansas. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 infant sons, 2 Brothers & 4 Sisters. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00PM, Monday, September 26, 2005 at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, KS with Rev. James M. Puckett officiating. Friends may call from 5-8pm on Sunday @ the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. The Family will be present to receive friends.
