Richard Mays

Richard Dean Mays, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at his home in Leoti, Kansas. Richard was born November 8, 1921 in Beardsley, Kansas, the son of Charles Owen & Mabel Blanche Sullivan Mays. A resident of Leoti, Kansas since 1979 moving from the Brewster, Kansas area, Richard was a farmer and a former night watchman for Caprock Industries. He served in the United States Navy during World War Two. Richard was a member of the Wichita County Amusement Association, National Rifle Association, Smoky Hills Brigade and served as a driver for the Wichita County Senior Citizens Center. On June 5, 1945 he married Marita Faye Heaton at Atwood, Kansas. Richard's surviving family includes- His wife- Marita Faye Mays- Leoti, Kansas Seven children and their spouses- Barbara June & Charles McKay- Hershey, Nebraska Roland Dean & Linda Mays- Ordway, Colorado Doris Ann & Gene Langdon- Leoti, Kansas Rod Duane & Karen Mays- Leoti, Kansas Mary Rose & Dwayne Atchley- Branson, Missouri Jonathan Leroy & Stephanie Mays- Erie, Colorado Patrick Alan & Valerie Mays- Chelsea, Oklahoma Four sisters- Ada Mae Schruben- Atwood, Kansas Bessie Pearl Hadley- Lompoc, California Elsie Brian- Colby, Kansas Blanche & John Ballard- Osage City, Missouri Two Daughters in Law- Margaret Mays- Tehachapi, California Micky Mays- Hayward, California And a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. His parents, two sons, Darryl A. Mays & Richard G. Mays, one daughter, Anita Faye Mays, two brothers, Owen Mays & Delbert Mays and a sister, Elma Hay preceded him in death. Cremation has been chosen and memorial services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Christ Covenant Church in Leoti, Kansas with the Reverend Bob Everest officiating. Memorials may be given to the Leoti Volunteer Fire Department in Care of Price and Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
