Ray Shearmire, age 81, died Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Homestead Health and Rehabilitation Center in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on October 22, 1930 in Scott County, Kansas, the son of Walter and Neva Binns Shearmire. Ray had been a resident of Garden City since 1955 serving as manager of Garden Bowl. He built Garden Skate in 1970 and Hard Rock Lanes in 1978 where he has continued to be the owner and operator.
He belonged to the Eagles Lodge and the Optimist Club both of Garden City. He served many positions, including President, of the Kansas Bowling Proprietors and was installed in the Kansas Bowling Hall of Fame in 1986. He enjoyed playing golf and softball and watching KU and K-State basketball.
On June 5, 1949 he married Lilia Minnix at Friend, Kansas. She died September 17, 2008 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include:
One Son, Gregg (& Kaye) Shearmire of Garden City, Kansas;
Two Daughters, Linda Owen of Garden City, Kansas and
Susan (& Tony) Stout of Garden City, Kansas;
One Sister, Jacque Snow of Scott City, Kansas;
Twelve Grandchildren and Thirteen Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and Nine Brothers and Sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Church Of
The Brethren in Garden City, Kansas.
Friends may call from 1pm-8pm on Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.
Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the to St. Catherine Hospice or the ALS Foundation in memory of his wife, Lilia, both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
