Phillip R. Dick, age 65, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at his home in Garden City, Kansas after a courageous struggle with ALS since 2002. He was born on April 13, 1943 in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Orrin and Lula Crozier Dick. A lifetime resident of Garden Cirty, Kansas.
He was a practicing CPA and he was an owner and former long time managing partner of Lewis, Hooper & Dick LLC for thirty seven years until his retirement forced by health in 2004. During that period of time he also spent a four year appointment on the Kansas Corporation Commission.
Phillip was active in many civic and political activities on a state, local, and national level. He served as president of the Kansas Society of CPAâÂÂs as well as president of the Southwest Kansas Royalty Owners Association. He was one of the original founders of the Western Kansas Community Foundation. He was active in the Republician Party, serving as local county chairman for many years, as well as having served as a national convention delegate, on the state committee, and the state executive committee.
A member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City for over 50 years, Elks Lodge, Kansas CPA Society, American CPA Society, Lions Club, and Harley Owners Group. He attended Garden City Community College, Kansas State University, and graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1967
In 1965 he married Beth Wilson. On June 30, 1989 he married Sheryl Cooper in Garden City, Kansas. She survives.
Survivors Include his wife - Sheryl Dick of Garden City, Kansas, Two Sons Michael Dick of South Fork, Colorado, Nathan Dick of Alamosa, Colorado, One Daughter Megan Lynch of Olathe, Kansas, Two Brothers - Gary Dick of Garden City, Kansas, Steve Cowgill of Westminister, Colorado, Three Sisters -Dona Meisinger of Prairie Village, Kansas, Andrea Schiffelbein of Grand Rapids Michigan, Laurie Handley of Lee Summit, Missouri, One Grandson - Tyler of Olathe, Kansas, One Granddaughter-to-be - Marli (who will be born December 1).
He was preceded in death by his Parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas with the Rev. David Bell presiding. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas
There will be no public visitation.
The family requests in Lieu of Flowers memorials be given to the Western Kansas Community Foundation in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
