OTTO ABRAHAM EPP, AGE 97, PASSED AWAY ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2006 AT GREELEY COUNTY HOSPITAL IN TRIBUNE, KANSAS. OTTO WAS BORN AUGUST 13, 1909 IN HARVEY COUNTY, KANSAS, THE SON OF JOHN HERBERT AND HELENA RATZLAFF EPP. He grew up in Hillsboro, Kansas, where he helped his mother with a family dairy. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended Bethel College in Newton, KS, for two years, then transferred to University of Kansas at Lawrence, graduating in 1932 with a journalism degree. He was proud of being editor of both the Bethel and KU student newspapers. ALONG WITH HIS WIFE, GEORGIA, HE HAD BEEN OWNER AND EDITOR OF THE GREELEY COUNTY REPUBLICAN NEWSPAPER IN TRIBUNE, KANSAS, COVERING BOTH WESTERN KANSAS AND EASTERN COLORADO, SINCE 1933 RETIRING IN 1994. OTTO WAS A MEMBER OF FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH- TRIBUNE, KANSAS KANSAS PRESS ASSN- TOPEKA, KANSAS GREELEY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY- TRIBUNE, KANSAS SALVATION ARMY TRIBUNE, KANSAS OTTO WAS A MEMBER OF THE KANASAS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, TOPEKA, WAS A CHARTER MEMBER OF ROTARY CLUB AT TRIBUNE AND ON THE GREELEY COUNTY HOSPITAL BOARD FOR 45 YEARS. HE WAS PAST PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTHWEST DISTRICT OF THE KANSAS EDITORIAL ASSOCIATION, AND HAD SERVED AS SCOUTMASTER FOR GREELEY COUNTY FOR MANY YEARS. ON OCTOBER 3, 1937 HE MARRIED GEORGIA JOHNSON AT TRIBUNE, KANSAS. SHE PASSED AWAY ON FEBRUARY 27, 1997 AT TRIBUNE. SURVIVORS INCLUDE- THREE SONS- DAVID E. EPP- DERWOOD, MARYLAND DAN M. EPP- TRIBUNE, KANSAS JOHN EPP- DES MOINES, IOWA ONE DAUGHTER- MARY JANE DI PIERO- PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA ONE BROTHER- ORLANDO EPP- HONOLULU, HAWAII FOUR GRANDCHILDREN, DANIELA DI PIERO, AARON, MEAGAN AND DEREK EPP. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS WIFE GEORGIA, PARENTS, TWO SISTERS, MARTHA EPP AND HILDA CROSSWAIT AND TWO BROTHERS, HUGO EPP AND WALDO EPP. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 10:30 AM (MDT) SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2006 AT THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN TRIBUNE, KANSAS WITH THE REVEREND CHARLES AYERS OFFICIATING. BURIAL WILL BE IN GREELEY COUNTY CEMETERY, TRIBUNE, KANSAS. FRIENDS MAY CALL FROM 10:00 TO 8:00 FRIDAY AT PRICE & SONS FUNERAL HOME IN TRIBUNE, KANSAS MEMORIALS MAY BE GIVEN TO GREELEY COUNTY HEALTH SERVICES OR THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN CARE OF THE FUNERAL HOME.
