Garden City, Kansas Melvina D. Sears, age 83, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at her home in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on January 20, 1927 in Spearville, Kansas the daughter of Melvin and Norah Trainer Luther. She graduated from KU Medical School with her nursing certificate in 1947. She moved to Cimarron, Kansas and worked for Dr. G.H. Jackman. In 1953 she moved to Garden City, Kansas and worked as a Registered Nurse for Dr. John Austin retiring in 1990. Melvina was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, Kansas. She also belonged to University of Kansas Alumni Association and the Order of the Eastern Star. On April 24, 1949 she married Walter A. Sears in Cimarron, Kansas. He survives. Other Survivors Include: Four Daughters, N. Luanne Sears of Garden City, Kansas, Melva J. (& Steve) Cottrell of Garden City, Kansas, Gayla S. (& Gary) Elliott of Garden City, Kansas and Janet (& Roger) Reed of Garden City, Kansas; One Sister, Flora M. "Shorty" Dawson of Lake Ozark, Missouri; One Step-Sister, Irma J. Lawrence of South Bend, Washington; Eleven Grandchildren and two Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Nora Luther and a step-sister, Elaine Deck. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Revs. Randy Caddell & Terry Major presiding. Friends may call from 10:00am-8:00pm Thursday @ the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. The family requests memorials be given to St. Catherine Hospice in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.
