Maurine Holmes

Maurine Holmes, age 88, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 9, 1921 in Sylvia, Kansas the daughter of Harley B. and Dottie Belle Angell Massey. She graduated from Dodge City Commuinty College with an Associates Degree in Home Economics. A resident of Garden City since 1957 moving from Hallsville, Missouri she was a homemaker and had been a partner with her husband at Holmes Reality working as a Real Estate and Securities Broker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the UMW both of Garden City, Kansas. She loved sewing, quilting & cooking. On October 5, 1947 she married Melvin W. Holmes in Dodge City, Kansas. He survives. Other Survivors Include: Two Sons, Jerry L. Holmes of Amarillo, Texas and Lynn W. Holmes of Garden City, Kansas; Two Daughters, Carol E. Rupp of Garden City, Kansas and Marla G. Jenkins of Roswell, New Mexico; Thirteen Grandchildren, and Sixteen Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kay Brecheisen and one brother, Leroy Massey. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Monday, January 4, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas with the Revs. David Bell and Brenda Fluellen presiding. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas. Friends may call from Noon-8pm Sunday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Center For Basic Cancer Research both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
