Mary Connors, age 88, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Villages Hospice in Lady Lake, Florida following a short illness. She was born on June 11, 1924 in St. Joseph, Missouri the daughter of John & Nellie Huskins Hosie. A longtime resident of Garden City, she had recently moved to Leesburg to be closer to her daughter. Mary and her husband Carl owned and operated Mary's Cellar in downtown Garden City for many years. A favorite fixture of Mary's Cellar was the player piano, and Mary loved to sing all the old tunes with anyone who would join in (and a lot of the regulars joined in!).
She had been a member of the Community Congregational Church, the American Legion Aux. and AARP. Music, reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and enjoying time with friends and family were favorite pastimes throughout Mary's life.
On June 11, 1950, she married Carl Connors in Garden City, Kansas. He died August 22, 1984 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include:
Three Daughters, Janet Connors of El Dorado Springs, Missouri;
Frankie (& Charles) Smith of Lady Lake, Florida and
Tricia (& Sam) Fountain of Springfield, Virginia;
One Niece, Phyllis Lujun of Denver, Colorado;
Seven Grandchildren, Eleven Great-Grandchildren and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Frank and a sister, Phyllis.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City, Kansas.
Private family graveside services will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
There will be no calling times.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the Community Congregational Church Endowment Fund in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.
