Marita Mays

Marita Faye Mays was born July 29, 1922, the first child of Merritt Judson (Murphy) and Myrth Amorette Heaton. She went home to be with those who predeceased her on April 24, 2012. She married Richard Dean Mays on June 5,1945. Their 66 year union produced 10 children. Marita taught school for four years during World War II, but quickly settled into homemaking with 5 children by her third wedding anniversary. After they moved to Leoti, she worked several years as a cook at the Wichita County Health Center. Then she won her battle with cancer but never returned to work outside the home. She enjoyed feeding people. She loved to read, and continued to read daily her entire life. She was a good seamstress and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Marita will be reunited in death with her loving partner of 66 years, Dean, with her parents, Murphy & Myrth, with a favorite aunt for whom she was named Faye Makings; with all her siblings; Doris, Merle and Lela, Frank, Ann and Denzel Dyer; and with three children; Darryl Anson, Anita Faye, and Richard Gene. Marita is remembered by: four sisters in law; Marianne Heaton, Ada Schruben, Bessie Hadley, and Elsie Lea Brian; seven children and their spouses, Barbara June (Charles McKay), Roland Dean and Linda Mays, Doris Ann (Gene Langdon), Rodney Duane & Karen Mays, Mary Rose (Dwayne Atchley), Jonathan Leroy and Stephanie Mays, Patrick Alan & Valerie Mays, two Daughters in law, Mickey Mays and Margaret Mays. She is remembered also by 34 grandchildren and a host of Great and Great Great Grandchildren. Private family services will be held at a later date.
