Margie Darlene (Unruh) Koehn was born September 29, 1931 in McPherson, Kansas to Frank Unruh and Elvina (Unruh) Unruh. She quietly passed away early morning July 8, 2008 at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kansas following a massive stoke. She reached the age of seventy-six years, nine months and nine days.
Margie spent her childhood years in McPherson County. Most of her formal education was received at Happy Hollow School. In recognition of her lost condition, she accepted the call of the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at Lone Tree, Kansas the last week of November in 1944. Her husband to be was baptized in the same meeting.
She was joined in marriage to Wilbert Koehn on January 20, 1952 at Lone Tree Mennonite Church, Galva, Kansas by her father, Minister Frank Unruh. They lived the first year and a half of their married life in McPherson County. They moved to northeast Wichita County in Western Kansas in September 1953 where they built their home. They moved in a year later and she resided there until he death. Mom enjoyed being a mother, homemaker, and dad's partner for over 56 years on the farm.
Margie had a quiet demeanor. She had a heart given to hospitality, often having impromptu Sunday Dinner Company. Her personal mission was to send letters , cards, and newspaper clippings to a host of friends, shut-ns, and missionaries around the world.
Margie is survived by her grieving husband, Wilbert; their three sons: Merle and wife, Judy, of Marienthal, Kansas; Stan and wife, Cindy, of Wellton, Arizona; Dale and wife, Kandee, of Marienthal, Kansas; two daughters: Joanne and husband, Larry Yost of Wrens, Georgia; Holly and Husband, Randall Giesbrecht, of Mesa, Washington; four sisters: Minnie and husband, Johnny Becker of Hesston, Kansas; Julia and husband, Roy Koehn of Homeworth, Ohio; Ruby and husband, Leon Koehn of Moundridge, Kansas; Lois Miller of Kidron, Ohio; one brother: Sanford Unruh and wife Elsie, Okolona, Mississippi; twenty-one grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother in law, Mahlon Miller.
Funeral Service will be held at the Scott Mennonite Church in Pence, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 with Richard Koehn, Charles Nightengale, and Franklin Koehn presiding.
Interment will be in the Scott Mennonite Church Cemetery in Pence, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the Scott Mennonite Church % Price & Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City and 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Scott Mennonite Church in Pence, Kansas.
