Margaret L. Spikes, age 92, died Friday, April 20, 2012 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born on May 9, 1919 in Hutchinson, Kansas the daughter of Lewis and Sadie Jordan. A resident of Garden City since the mid 1940's, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Although she only raised five children, there were many more who called
her "Mom". She had the gift of hospitality, was a great cook, and loved to take care of people by feeding them. Most knew her as an avid fisherman at the farm pond or Lake Wilson. Anyone who visited her home would find themselves on her deck amongst the flowers and birds.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Elks, the YMCA, and the Red Hat Society
all of Garden City, Kansas.
On August 12, 1939 she married Carlos C. Spikes in Hutchinson, Kansas. He died July 31, 1980 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include:
Two Sons, Gary (& Linda) Spikes of Garden City, Kansas and Charles L. Spikes of Garden City, Kansas;
Three Daughters, Peggy (& Chuck) Brucker of Wilson, Kansas,
Delta (& Brett) Martin of Cody, Wyoming and
Joy (& Greg) Robinson of Hutchinson, Kansas;
One Sister, Florence Jordan of Portland, Oregon;
Sixteen Grandchildren, Thirty-Seven Great-Grandchildren and Six Great-Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Five Brothers, and Two Sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Garden City, Kansas.
Friends may call from 10:00-8:00pm Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
Interment will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the YMCA in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
