Lydia Schweer, age 96, died Friday, November 23, 2012 at HPH Hospice in New Port Richey, Florida. She was born on September 3, 1916 in WaKeeney, Kansas, the daughter of John Henry and Magdalena Knaus Mai. Lydia was a homemaker and in 1998 left Garden City to live with her daughter.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Garden City, Kansas, Christ the King Lutheran Church of Stockbridge, Georgia and Hope Lutheran Church of Hudson, Florida where she made quilts and was quite well known for her chocolate chiffon cakes. She also enjoyed her flowers, gardening and wildlife.
On September 25, 1938 she married Raymond F. Schweer. He died October 28, 1967.
Survivors Include:
One Son, Vernon (& Joan) Schweer of Topeka, Kansas;
One Daughter, Arlene (& Rev. Kent) Fuqua of Hudson, Florida;
Three Sisters, Ruth Burdick of Garden City, Kansas,
Esther Krug of Garden City, Kansas and
Freda McMillan of Garden City, Kansas;
Five Grandchildren and Eight Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Emil Mai and a great grandson, Vernon Raymond Schweer II.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Dennis Fitzpatrick and Rev. Kent Fuqua presiding.
Friends may call from 10:00am-6:00pm Wednesday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
Interment will be held in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Hope Lutheran Building Fund both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
