Liquetta Joyce “Joy” Cole, age 83, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on May 17, 1940, in Modoc, Kansas, the daughter of Roger and Doris Frost Heim. A lifetime resident of Modoc, Kansas, she was a postmaster for many years and a highly skilled horsemanship instructor.
She was a member and very active at the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas, as well as the American Quarter Horse Association, the High Plains Study Club, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. During her lifetime, she served as a William Carpenter 4-H Foundation board member and was a lifelong 4-H member and leader.
On November 27, 1959 she married Jessie Lee Cole in Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on May 14, 2018 in Westmoreland, Kansas.
Survivors include her two daughters - Trina & Russell Harlow of Prosper, Texas and Robyn Lane of Modoc, Kansas; one sister - Shirley & Charles Griffith of Scott City, Kansas; five grandchildren - Hunter & Rachel Harlow of Waco, Texas, Andrew & Megann Harlow of Van Alstyne, Texas, and Chloe and Mat Fielder of Denton, Texas, as well as Peri Lane of Jay, Oklahoma and Lexi & Spencer Dills of Grove, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother - Vernon Heim, and two sisters - Marjorie Riggs and Carol Hassler.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023, with the Rev. Kyle Evans presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be written to the First Baptist Church or Park Lane Nursing Home in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, PO Box 553, Scott City, Kansas, 67871.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2023, and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 9, 2023 at Price & Sons Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington Street, Scott City, Kansas.
Interment will be held in the Modoc Cemetery in Modoc, Kansas.
