LeRoy V. Wilson, age 69, died Wed., April 2, 2008 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS. He was born on January 10, 1939 in Dodge City, KS, the son of Vernon and Juanita Henning Wilson. He graduated from Dodge City High School in 1957, attended Dodge City Junior College and Northeastern State University in Talequa, OK. He later graduated from Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS with his Masters degree in Journalism and Polital Science. He was a professional photographer, journalist and publisher and was an owner/publisher for newspapers in Scott City, Goodland, Guymon, OK and Morton, TX. A resident of Garden City since 2004 moving from Littlefield, TX he worked for the Garden City Telegram and contributed freelance articles in a variety of newspapers and magazines. He was a voracious reader, a staunch supporter of Western Kansas and was an enthusiatic political analyst.
LeRoy was a member of the Christian Faith. He was a US Navy Fighter Pilot stationed on the USS Saratoga from 1958 to 1962 and, being an avid pilot, flew weather modification flights in Western Kansas for the Southwest Kansas Groundwater Management Association. He belonged to the American Organization of Private Aviators and was currently serving on the Garden City Regional Airport Board of Directors.
On July 22, 1979 he married Lola Geier in Garden City, Kansas. She survives.
Other Survivors Include: One Son, Scott L. Wilson of Fernley, Nevada; One Brother, Gail Wilson of Golden, Colorado; Two Sisters, Patricia Hedemark of Phoenix, Arizona and Rebecca Martinez of Dodge City, Kansas; 3 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30am, Monday, April 7, 2008 at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Deacon Dwayne Lampe presiding.
There will be no public visitation.
