Leroy Garman

Leroy James Garman passed away September 8, 2013, of pancreatic cancer with his family by his side. Leroy was born to Charles and Maude Garman in Turon, KS on April 22, 1928. Leroy graduated from High School in Hanston, KS. He joined the army and served from 1947-1950, primarily on the island of Guam. When he returned to the states and settled in Garden City, he met and married the love of his life, Dolly Johnson of Garden City, KS, on December 24, 1951 in Clayton, NM. Leroy then went back to school and received an Associates Degree from Garden City Community College in 1954; a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO in 1958; and a Master's Degree in Education from Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK in 1970. Leroy taught elementary school in Garden City for 34 years and then substituted for another 18 years in the surrounding area. He was passionate about teaching and really cared about his students, their education, and providing them with a good foundation for their future. In addition to teaching school, Leroy loved to travel and had visited all 50 states as well as many foreign countries. He collected license plates. He was also proud of serving the community as a member of the Civil Air Patrol (Lt. Colonel), he was a member for 37 years. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Leroy is survived by his wife Dolly of Rathdrum, ID; three children, Clinton Garman of Post Falls, ID, Robert Garman (Karla) of Garden City, KS, and Peggy Stettler (Dean) of Rathdrum, ID, a sister Annabelle Moyer Schwab of Cheyenne Wells, CO and a brother Marion Garman (Kay) of Salina, KS. He is proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Leon Farmer, Vernon Farmer, and John Garman, and sister Verda Farmer Dunham (Russ). The funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at the Church Of The Brethren in Garden City, Kansas. Friends may call from Noon-8pm Friday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City with the family being in attendance from 6-8pm. The burial will take place at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of the Brethren or Hospice of North Idaho in Coeur d'Alene, ID both in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
