Leland Elmer Roemer, age 88, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at his home in Healy, Kansas. Elmer was born March 9, 1921 in Gove County, Kansas, the son of George Christian & Mabel Ethelyn Lillia Roemer. He was a 1939 graduate of Healy High School. A lifetime resident of Healy, he was a farmer and stockman. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
Elmer's memberships include- Healy United Methodist Church- Healy, Kansas American Legion Post # 190- Dighton, Kansas He was also a past member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He served on the Healy School Board, Healy CO-OP Board of Directors, as Treasurer for Lewis Township in Gove County, Kansas and as a livestock leader for the Ness and Lane Counties 4-H programs.
On September 14, 1949 he married Luella Maxine Bowman at the Healy United Methodist Church in Healy, Kansas. She survives.
Other surviving include: One son and his wife, Earl & Barbara Roemer of Healy, Kansas; Two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl & James Tomson of Lenexa, Kansas and Mary & Charles Elliott of Overland Park, Kansas; Two brothers, Duane Roemer of Healy, Kansas and Reece Roemer of Healy, Kansas; One sister, Ethelyn Settles of Scott City, Kansas and Five grandchildren, Bryan Tomson, Kaitlin Roemer, Lindsey Elliott, Kaleb Roemer & Haley Elliott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and a granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 14. 2009 at the Healy Cemetery in Healy, Kansas with the Reverend James L. Brackett officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail from Fort Riley, Kansas.
There will be no visitation.
