Joyce Ramsey, age 91, passed away on February 22, 2025, at the Scott County Hospital. She was born on October 25, 1933, in Scott City, Kansas, the daughter of Martin and Maude Hopper. She was a lifetime resident of Scott County, Kansas.
She attended local schools, graduating from Scott Community High School in 1951. She married Richard D Ramsey on July 15, 1952, in Scott City. He passed away on December 22, 2004.
Joyce was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was always there with love and support for her family and friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the funeral dinner committee, and many other church committees and later participated in the Stephen ministry. She was a longtime leader in 4-H and served nine years as secretary/treasurer of the William Carpenter 4-H Foundation. She also was a founding member of the Scott County Healthcare Foundation, serving as their secretary/treasurer for several years. Joyce was actively involved in the family farming operation and was famous with her family for bringing “four o’clock snacks” to the farm fields.
Survivors include two sons - Craig (Gina) Ramsey of Scott City and Brad (Trish) Ramsey of Boerne, TX; and one daughter Susan (Tad) Hardy of Baton Rouge, LA; six grandchildren who affectionately called her “Grandma Jo” - Elliot (Lindsey) Hardy of Baton Rouge, LA; Kristin (Dale) Jessup of Scott City; Marc (Leah) Ramsey of Scott City; Alex (Caitlyn) Ramsey of Fort Worth, TX; Reagan Ramsey of Boerne, TX and Sage Ramsey of Boerne, TX; eleven great-grandchildren – Piper Jessup, Trace Jessup, Hope Jessup, Madrie Ramsey, Callyn Ramsey, Sadie Ramsey, Asher Ramsey, Emma Ramsey, Allie Ramsey, McCall Hardy and Weston Hardy. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; one brother, Morris Hopper; and two sisters, Evie Hutchins and Sue Parmer.
The family thanks the Scott County Hospital and Park Lane Nursing Home staff who cared for her with compassion.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no calling times.
Inurnment will be beside her husband at the Scott County Cemetery.
