Joseph Berning, age 90, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Wichita County Health Center LTCU in Leoti, Kansas. Joe was born September 16, 1926 on the Berning family homestead near Marienthal, Kansas, the son of Joseph & Veronica (Heili) Berning. A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Kansas, he was a Farmer and Stockman.
Joe was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas. He was a Charter & Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights Of Columbus, Marienthal Council # 2930 and a 4th degree Knight Of Columbus at John B. Franz Assembly #2567. He served on the Wichita County Soil Conservation Board, Wichita County Cemetery Board and was a Pioneer Seed dealer for over 50 years.
On October 15, 1946 he married Mary Bernice Gerstberger at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.

His parents, one son, Bruce Berning, three siblings, Bart Berning, John (Hans) Berning and Evelyn Stegman precede him in death.
Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 20, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Fathers Benjamin Martin & Terry Klein officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Marienthal, Kansas.
Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday and from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to Wichita County Health Center LTCU or St Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
