John M. Nelson III, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on September 6, 1916 in Wilmore, Kansas, the son of John Merle and Edna Weddle Nelson. A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was a bookkeeper for Weishaar Drilling and a farmer.
For many years, John wrote a column in the News Chronicle in Scott City, Kansas and also was an avid woodworker.
His memberships include the Church of The Nazarene and the Scott County VIP Center both of Scott City, Kansas.
On February 10, 1940 he married Millie Ida Randolph in Emporia, Kansas. She passed on February 4, 2003 in Scott City, Kansas.
Survivors Include his One Son - John M. & Paula Nelson of Opp, Alabama, Two Daughters - Karen Sue & Frank Heinrich of Lake George, Colorado, Linda Lue & Tim Phelps of Gladstone, Missouri, Nine Grandchildren, Fifteen Great Grandchildren and Two Great Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Two Sisters and One Brother.
Memorial Services will be held at the Church of The Nazarene in Scott City, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012 with Pastor Ward Clinton presiding.
Inurnment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas
