John J. Lawson, age 92, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Greeley County Health Center in Tribune, Kansas. John was born June 15, 1922 in Plains, Kansas, the son of John Spurgeon & Maybelle Angell Lawson. John had been a Greeley County resident since 1945. He was a farmer/ stockman and served as a rural mail carrier and as Postmaster of the Tribune, Kansas Post Office for many years. John served his country during World War Two in the United States Air Force.
John was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Tribune, Kansas. He also held membership in the Greeley County Historical Society, Kansas Livestock Association and the Southwest Kansas Royalties Association.
On October 24, 1948 he married Ruth Leslie at Syracuse, Kansas.
John’s surviving family includes; His wife, Ruth Lawson of Tribune, Kansas;
Two children, Janette & Jim Crotinger, Tribune, Kansas; Kent & Patricia Lawson- Colorado Springs, Colorado; Four grandchildren, A. J. & Sheryl Crotinger, Tribune, Kansas; Danielle Bauer, Chandler, Texas; Kevin & Lindsey Lawson, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tiffany & Luke Scott, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Four great grandchildren, Evan Crotinger, Tribune, Kansas; Lauren Crotinger, Tribune, Kansas; Reagan Crotinger, Tribune, Kansas; Payton Bauer, Chandler, Texas. His parents, four brothers, two sisters, a son, John Leigh Lawson and a great grandchild, Haylee Lawson precede him in death.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. (MDT) Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Assembly of God Church in Tribune, Kansas with the Reverend Justin Scherer officiating.
Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas with military honors.
Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Tribune, Kansas
Memorials may be given to the Greeley County Library in care of the funeral home.
