Joe Allen Tipton, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on February 27, 1942 in Shidler, Oklahoma, the son of Orlen C. and Thelma Hoffman Tipton.
He was raised in Osage County and attended Kildare, Peter's and McCord schools until 8th grade when the family moved to Tonkawa, Oklahoma where he graduated in 1960. While in high school he was a member of FFA. Joe attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College for two years and was a member of the AG Club.
On November 25, 1959 Joe enlisted into the U.S. Army Reserves and served active duty as an auto mechanic at Fort Knox, KY. Joe was an honored medalist for rule marksmanship. He received an honorable discharge on October 31, 1967.
Joe lived his life as a cowboy and a craftsman of leather goods in the family business â Luft Leather Goods. Joe also was a card holder of the PRCA for bull riding.
On august 8, 1977 he married Karen L. Allison in Ulysses, Kansas. To this union Casey Dale and Kelly Joe were born. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Orlen and Thelma Tipton, Grandparents, Dell & Delia Tipton, Grandparents, John & Katie Hoffman. He is survived by his sons Casey and wife Rita, grandson Cody Joe of Ulysses, KS, Kelly and wife Tera of Syracuse, KS, two brothers, Robert and wife Sue of Bramen, OK, Raymond and wife Patty of Ponca City, OK, two sisters, Edna Covalt of Lamont, OK, and NaDean Thomas and husband David of Ponca City, OK. Also loved by many nieces and nephews known to them as "Uncle Joe".
A private family burial will take place at Tonkawa, Oklahoma. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 1611 Dean Ave., Ponca City, Oklahoma.
