GARDEN CITY, KS Jerome "Jerry" Wayne Messerly, age 78, died on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ at his home in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on May 14, 1928 at Hudson, Kansas, the son of Robert & Hedwic Krug Messerly. Jerry was raised in Haskell County and attended school in Sublette, KS. He & his wife lived in Garden City until 1958 when he moved to Wichita and was a Finish Carpenter for Vulcan Material for 18 years. They returned to Garden City in 1976, where he pursued a business for water well services, and farmed with his brother, Robert, in Sublette, Kansas. After retirement, he moved to Wichita to live with his son. He was a member of the Sublette United Methodist Church, and had served on the Kansas National Guard in the early fifties. On October 30, 1954, he married Marie Minter at Albuquerque, New Mexico. She survives. Other survivors include: One Son, Jerry W. Messerly of Wichita, Kansas; Caregiver & Daughter-in-law, Teresa Messerly of Wichita, Kansas; One Daughter, Stephanie Messerly of Wichita, Kansas; One Brother, Don Messerly of Sublette, Kansas; One Sister, Ruth Phoenix of Sublette, Kansas; 4 Grandchildren, 5 Great-Grandchildren, 25 nieces & nephews & 9 Great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Messerly, a nephew, Robert "Skipper" W. Messerly, and infant nephew, Michael Craig Messerly, and infant niece, Dee Ann Messerly, all of Sublette, and a niece, Shonda L. Minter of Holcomb, Kansas. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 30, 2007 at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City with the Rev. Keith Fink presiding. There will be no calling times, as Jerry's request was to have his body donated to the KU Medical Center for research. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Garden City.
