James Edgar Wharton, age 95, died Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Homestead Assisted Living in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on December 10, 1915 in Bonner Spring, Kansas, the son of Earnest Michael and Dott Walker Wharton. A resident of Garden City since 1950, Jim was the founder of Wharton's For Every Bloomin' Thing Inc. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Garden City, Kansas. He also belonged to the American Legion, the Eagles Lodge and the Elks Lodge, all of Garden City. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran.
On September 1, 1939 he married Eleanor (Sally) Hart in Overbrook, KS. She passed away on June 15, 1991 in Garden City, KS. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Wharton, and three brothers, Walker, Earnest & Robert Wharton.
Survivors include: A Daughter, Sarah (& Al) Diman of Independence, MO; A Son, George (& Debbie) of Garden City, KS; A Daughter-in-Law, Judy Hamman Wharton of Allen, TX; Nine Grandchildren & Four Great-Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 @ the Presbyterian Church in Garden City with the Rev. Denise Pass presiding.
Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
Friends may call from 10:00 am-8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the David Wharton Memorial Scholarship at GCCC in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
