Leoti, Kansas native Jacqueline JaNell Townsend went to her Lord peacefully on Sunday, September 28th in Phoenix, AZ. Throughout her life, Jacque made the most of opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Warren (W.H.) Townsend, Anthem Arizona; brother, Maurice Wikoff, Hutchinson, Kansas; daughter Jan and her husband Bob Arndt, Phoenix, Arizona; and daughter Su and her husband Bill Byron, and their children Retta, Brecken and Graham, Scottsdale, Arizona.
Born September 10, 1926 to Grant and Esther Wikoff, Jacque enjoyed a happy, bountiful life in Leoti. She was a graduate of Wichita County Community High School, and married W.H. in August of 1947.
Jacque was a highly valued employee first at the Carter Land and Abstract Company and, following that, was with the Wichita County School District office for many years. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, Leoti, and served the Lord admirably through her involvement in countless church activities. Jacque was a familiar, smiling face as a volunteer in the Thrift Shop and could be counted upon throughout the annual County Fair celebration to generously give of her time.
Jacque was never one to sit in one place for any length of time. She loved her gardening, especially the bloom of her roses. She took great satisfaction in her daily walks into the country. Travel was a passion of hers, as captured in her photo albums filled with pictures of cruises and vacations. She loved bridge nights, and for many years was a "regular" on the golf course. Jacque was a fierce and loyal sports fan, particularly for her K-State Wildcats. Her pride in the development and accomplishments of her grandchildren was boundless.
As a mother, Jacque never missed a school activity, performance or sporting event that involved her children. She carried this same devotion to her grandchildren. Warren and Jacque moved to Arizona in 2003, and Jacque made sure she was in the audiences of her grandchildren's concerts, games, graduations and school presentations.
Jacque Townsend â loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a gift from God, and the world is a better place because she made a difference.
