IRMA E. COUPLAND-CARTER, AGE 87 PASSED AWAY ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2007 IN COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO. SHE WAS BORN DECEMBER 5, 1919 AT HORACE, KANSAS, THE DAUGHTER OF FRED & ETHEL SHACKLETT. SHE WAS A GRADUATE OF GREELEY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AND A 1940 GRADUATE OF CARVER CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE. IN 1941 SHE MARRIED RICHARD P. COUPLAND. THE COUPLE RAISED THREE CHILDREN AND RESIDED IN TRIBUNE, KANSAS UNTIL SHORTLY BEFORE HIS DEATH IN 1972. AFTER MOVING TO WICHITA, KANSAS TO BE NEARER FAMILY, IRMA MARRIED DALE CARTER IN 1975. FOLLOWING HIS DEATH IN 2001, SHE MOVED TO COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO
SHE WAS A CHIROPRACTOR, PILOT, CARING WIFE, AND LOVING MOTHER. SHE HAD AN AVID INTEREST IN GOLF, PLAYING BRIDGE, FLYING HER PLANE, ATTENDING BIBLE STUDY AND TRAVELING. IRMA WAS VERY ACTIVE IN HER CHURCH, AND ENJOYED SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE HOLY LAND. HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL REMEMBER HER UNRELENTING OPTIMISIM FOR LIFE AND HER STRONG WORK ETHIC. IRMA WAS RARELY KNOWN TO HAVE AN UNKIND WORD FOR ANYONE.
IRMA IS UURVIVED BY HER SISTER, LEE PAYNTER OF SACREMENTO, CALIFORNIA, HER BROTHER, ROBERT SHACKLETT AND WIFE MARTHA OF GOLDEN, COLORADO. A SON AND TWO DAUGHTERS AND THEIR SPOUSES, RICK AND CORDY COUPLAND OF FLAGSTAFF, ARIZONA, MARY & JIM DINKEL OF WICHITA, KANSAS AND ANN AND STEVE ERICKSON OF COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO. FOUR GRANDCHILDREN, RICHARD DINKEL, MICHAEL DINKEL, PHILIP ERICKSON AND ABBY HICKS, FIVE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN SHE WAS PRECEEDED IN DEATH BY TWO BROTHERS, CLARK SHACKLETT AND REX SHACKLETT, A GRANDDAUGHTER, SHANA COUPLAND AND A GREAT GRANDSON ALEX DINKEL.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE WAS HELD ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2007 AT THE ERICKSON FAMILY HOME IN COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO AND GRAVESIDE SERVICES WERE HELD SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2007 AT GREELEY COUNTY CEMETERY IN TRIBUNE, KANSAS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF PRICE & SONS FUNERAL HOME IN TRIBUNE, KANSAS.
