Dr. Horace J. Good, age 93, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born April 28, 1919 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania the son of Rev. William D. and May E. Harrison Good. A resident of Garden City since 1969, moving from the Denver area, he had served as Superintendent for USD 457 retiring in 1984. He then worked for Fry Eye Associates in Public Relations for over 20 years. Dr. Good was honored this Fall when the former high school was named the Horace J. Good Middle School.
Dr. Good was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, and the Tyrian Masonic Lodge, all of Garden City, Kansas, the National Education Association, the El Jebel Shrine Temple of Denver, and the Order of the Eastern Star of Brighton, CO. He was a U.S. Army First Lieutenant, serving in France and Germany during WWII.
In the early1940's, he married Marie Yelverton. Then, on December 31, 1963 he married Eleanor M. Lewis in Commerce City, Colorado. She survives.
Other Survivors Include:
One Son, H. James Good of Garden City, Kansas;
One Daughter, Lesa M. Baca of Denver, Colorado;
Three Grandchildren and Six Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark E. Good, one brother, William O. Good and two sisters, Margaret Murray & Louise Blankenbehler.
Memorial Services will be held at ¬¬¬¬10:00am, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Kansas.
There will be no calling times at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the St. Catherine Hospice in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
