Hazel (Dolly) Pearl Johnson Garman passed away at home in her sleep on May 30, 2014.
Dolly was born to Carl and Hope Johnson in Garden City, KS on December 1, 1929. Dolly graduated from Garden City High School in 1948 and received an Associates Degree from Garden City Community College in 1950. She met and married the love of her life, Leroy Garman on December 24, 1951 in Clayton, NM. Together they continued their education, with both receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO in 1958; and a Master's Degree in Education from Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK in 1970.
Dolly taught elementary school in the Garden City area for 30 years. Her first teaching job was in 1950 at the Pawnee Valley School, a one room school house. She later taught for USD 457 at Theoni and Garfield schools. She was passionate about teaching and really cared about her students, their education, and providing them with a good foundation for their future. She only retired due to complications associated with Multiple Sclerosis.
In addition to teaching school, Dolly loved spending time with her family, reading and having a good conversation. She travelled the world with her husband, family and friends. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.
Dolly is survived by three children, Clinton Garman of Post Falls, ID, Robert Garman (Karla) of Garden City, KS, and Peggy Stettler (Dean) of Rathdrum, ID; a sister Blanche Bribiesca (Gregory Sr.) of Apache Junction, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her husband Leroy and sister Mary Lou Drussel.
The funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kan. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family being in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. The burial will take place at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of the Brethren or Garden City Community College.
