Harold Glenn “Boots” Grubb passed away on November 1, 2024. He was born in Garden City, Kansas to George and Minnie (Archer) Grubb on April 29, 1939. The family moved from Gray County to Greeley County in April of 1944. He was dubbed “Boots” by his father and that followed him during his Tribune school days. He graduated with the class of 1957 and attended Kansas State majoring in agriculture. He enlisted in the Air Force and spent 3 years, 4 months, and 23 days stationed in Taiwan, Viet Nam, and Germany assigned to the US Security System, Communication, and Intelligence Service. Adventure was in his nature.
He graduated from Fort Hays State College with a BA in Political Science. During his time in Hays, he worked for a company that was appraising land in Ellis County. On December 7, 1969, he and Shirley Keller were married and began life together in Goodland, KS.
In 1971 he began to work for World Savings and Loan in Denver, Co. as a real estate appraiser. That led to work as a loan officer. When World Savings opened offices on the Western Slope he was the manager/loan officer for offices in Aspen, Paonia, Rangely, Meeker, and Steamboat Springs with the main office in Rifle.
That time in Rifle brought not only his son Jeff into the world but a cow elk kill plus a deer with antlers that qualified with Boone and Crocket measurements. When the holding company for World Savings was bought out, First Federal Savings and Loan of Craig, Colorado hired him. In Craig, his daughter Kellee was born. Then wanderlust got the best of him and he moved the family north to Juneau, Alaska. For 20 years they enjoyed the Alaskan life - then retirement came. When the family home sold quickly, the homeless couple relocated to Tribune where they have resided for 20 years.
Harold at various times was a member of Jaycees, Elks, Lions Club, Masons, and Shrine. He attended the Methodist Church. His pastimes included fishing, boating, watching college basketball, and driving wherever the road would take him. He was an early adopter of anything computer starting with his HP-12C for figuring loan payments and purchasing an Apple 2-e very early on. In retirement, he enjoyed driving - traveling to many National Parks in the west. At home, he participated in Feeder Watch for Cornell University Ornithology Dept., was an ancestry buff using the Family Tree Maker to explore family history, and loved to hunt those Greeley County prairie dogs.
Survivors include wife Shirley, son Jeff (Susan), daughter Kellee Purdy (Seth), grandchildren Kira, Ryan and Zachary, and caregiver Zeke Stone. His older brother John also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jerry, Patrick and sister Laura Shuster.
A graveside service is planned for a date in the spring or summer.
Memorials may be made to the "Greeley County EMTs" or the "High School Football program" in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, PO Box 161, Leoti, KS 67861.
