Gary Robert Salyer, 77, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 31, 1938, in Garden City to Emil and Blanche Salyer.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, he was an owner of Wheat Lands, Inc.
He was an active member of the community, serving on many boards and service clubs. He was a member of the Lions Club International and the Elk Lodge. He was a co-founder of the Finney County Convention & Tourism Board, a member of the Finney County Airport Board, as well as a member of the Bank 4 Board. In 1970 he was awarded General Motors Youngest Top Dealer for the Western United States.
On June 10, 1962, he married Carolyn Lockman in Ford. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Jeff Salyer and wife Faith of Garden City, and Mark Salyer and wife Heather of Surprise, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Alexander R. Salyer of Lawrence, Alexander J. Salyer and Emma Salyer of Surprise, and Matt Salyer and Zach Salyer of Garden City.
He is also survived by two brothers; Van Salyer of The Village, FL and Ray Salyer of Roseburg, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bible Christian Church in Garden City. There will be no visitation.
Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Gary had a passion for the success of Garden City and the Finney County Humane Society so
