Galen V. Schmidt, age 85, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on June 26, 1922 in Greensburg, Kansas the son of Victor D. and Katie Koehn Schmidt. A resident of Garden City since 1940 moving from Greensburg he had been a Chemical Engineer for the US Government. He also worked as a Civil Engineer, was a chemist for the Columbian Carbon Company in Ulysses, was a Surveyor and owned had previously owned and operated a hotel with his wife in Kansas.
He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, the Eagles Lodge, the VFW and the American Legion all of Garden City, KS and he was a WWII US Army Veteran.
On October 25, 1942 he married Corrine Staley on her family farm in Finney County, Kansas. She died May 21, 2005 in Garden City, Kansas.
Survivors Include: Three Sons, Terry Schmidt of Bucerias, Nayant, Mexico, Steven Schmidt of Point Pleasant, New Jersey and Mark Schmidt of Lynwood, Washington; One Daughter, Beverly Schmidt of Mesa, Arizona; One Sister, Melva Boone of Iuka, Kansas; Seven Grandchildren and Seven Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a Granddaughter, Ten Lin Marquez.
Graveside Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas with the Rev. David Bell presiding.
There will be no calling times.
The family requests memorials be given to the S.A.D.S. in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.
