Freddie D. Bontrager, age 89, formerly of Garden City died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at his home in Palmetto, Florida. He was born December 6, 1919 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Daniel M. & Polly Miller Bontrager. A resident of Palmetto, FL since 2000 moving from Western Kansas he had been a farmer.
He was a member of the Wesleyan Church of Lakin, Kansas and served in the ministry of The Gideons International for over 54 years holding offices locally and statewide.
On April 16, 1943 he married Alice Irene Miller in Elkhart, Indiana. She survives.
Other Survivors Include: Two Sons, Lewis (& Deanna) Bontrager of Kendall, Kansas and Darrell (& Terry) Bontrager or Emporia, Kansas; Three Daughters, Lucienne (& Don) Buell of Elkhart, Indiana, Connie (& Mike) Fawcett of Palmetto, Florida, and Dena (& Alden) Swartz of Charlestown, Indiana; One Sister, Ida (& Floyd) Kauffman of Buhl, Indiana; One Sister-in-Law, Katie Bontrager of Scott City, Kansas and One Brother-in-Law, Kenny Miller of Elkhart, Indiana; Eighteen Grandchildren and Twenty Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother & four sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Wesleyan Church in Lakin, Kansas with the Rev. Mark Hamel presiding.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00pm on Friday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City.
Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City, Kansas. Memorials may be given to The Gideon's International in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.
