Fred Allen Piper, age 62, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. Fred was born November 13, 1951 at Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Paul Edward, Sr. & Frances Marie Wasson Piper, he had been a resident of Garden City since1978 moving from Dodge City. He was one of the original contractors at Southwind Country Club, an agriculture specialist and a cemetery grounds keeper at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City from 2000 until his retirement in 2009. Fred served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany.
Fred was raised in the Baptist Church, was a member of the American Legion Post # 9 in Garden City, Kansas and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was also a driver in the Pony Stock division at several raceways in the Western Kansas area.
On May 23, 1980 he married Kenna Louise Erskine at Lakin, Kansas.
Fred's surviving family includes his Wife - Kenna Louise Piper of Garden City, Kansas, One Daughter - Heather Louise & Jason Lund of Garden City, Kansas, One grandson - Ayden Allen Piper of Garden City, Kansas, Two Sisters - Donna & Ray Hernandez of Deerfield, Kansas, Karen & Bruce Wegner of Bullhead City, Arizona, One brother - Gary Lynn Piper of Park City, Kansas.
His parents and one brother, Paul Edward Piper, Jr. precede him in death.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, Kansas with Pastor Nathan Sheridan officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Fort Dodge National Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Kansas with full military honors provided by the United States Army Funeral Detail and American Legion Post # 9 from Garden City, Kansas.
There will be no calling times
Memorials may be given to the American Legion Wounded Warriors Fund in care of the funeral home.
