She was born on December 29, 1924 in Orion, Kansas, the daughter of James A. and Garnett Johnson Stevenson. She graduated from Emporia High School and attended Brown Mackey College in Salina, Kansas. A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1946, she worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas Company as a bookkeeper & cashier and she was a homemaker.
