Evelyn Rose "Evie" Stegman, age 80, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. Evie was born October 27, 1933 on the family homestead one and a half miles east and north of Marienthal, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph Mathias & Veronica Elizabeth Heile Berning. Father Cyprian later baptized her in St. Mary Catholic Church. Her sponsors were Frank Kohl and Clara Berning Albers. Evie spent most of her life in the Marienthal community, holding memberships in St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary Alter Society, the Daughters of Isabella and United States Postal Workers Union. Evie spent over 22 years as a postal employee, retiring as Postmaster of Marienthal Post Office.
On November 21, 1959 she married Melvin Leo Stegman, the son of Andrew & Lucy Stegman at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas. Melvin passed away on August 25, 2010 at Hays, Kansas.
Evie's surviving family include-

Timothy Stegman- LaGrange, Kentucky
Randall & Vickie Stegman- Edgerton, Kansas
Douglas & Joni Stegman- Marienthal, Kansas
Sandra & John Lacoy, Jr- Scott City, Kansas
Two brothers-
Joseph & Bernice Berning- Leoti, Kansas
Edwin & Kathy Berning- Leoti, Kansas
Sister in law
Bernadine Berning- Wichita, Kansas
Eleven Grandchildren including Kevin Heckard, Kenneth Heckard, Derek Stegman, Clint Stegman, Eric Fuller, David Fuller, Ashley Lacoy, Audrey Lacoy, Justin Stegman, Jason Stegman & Dylan Stegman and Thirteen Great Grandchildren.
Her parents, a son, Stanley Stegman and two brothers, Bart Berning & John Berning precede her in death.
Vigil Services will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Father Benjamin Martin officiating.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marienthal, Kansas with Father Benjamin Martin officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Marienthal, Kansas.
Friends may call from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
